Not what "We the people" means

4/8/11

As a man who gladly served his country and was willing and ready to defend its values, I am shamed at the all-out assault on the working people, the women, the poor, the children and the elderly that is now being waged, not only in our Congress but in many states. And at the same time we're giving welfare to oil companies, banks, insurance companies and the extremely rich.

Here, cutting spending does not apply to granting a tax cut for the rich and raising our debt by $450 billion to pay for that welfare, only for caring for the rest of the men, women and children of America.

These are not the values I was willing to die for; these are not the values fought for in 1776. Values that said we care about the people and believe the Constitution, the first three words of which are "We the people."

We used to care about those less fortunate and our workers, but not anymore, I guess.

A land where everybody has the opportunity to fulfill their dreams, not just those with money or influence, but even those born in poverty can someday become president.
