While giving advice (like anyone should listen to them) to the New Hughson City Council, the McClatchy Yellow Pages also known as the Bee congradulated them on saying "The results reflect a clear mandate.
The three people elected to replace them — George Carr, Jeramy Young and Jill Silva — also had lopsided wins, giving them credibility as they assume office.
While we agree with this statement it calls into question other reccomendations made by the Bee.
When the Ridenour led Council proposed to eliminate runoffs it backed their decision.
When the Council decided to hi-jack the rights of citizens to vote for Olsen's replacement, the Bee approved.
Yet today they are happy and proud for the Hughson Council to have an overwhelming mandate from the people.
What's good enough for Hughson should be good enough for Modesto. But the Bee would rather tell the citizens of Modesto to "Get in the back of the bus" and forget about democracy and voting for your representitives.
We remind Judy Sly, Mark Vasche, and Eric Johnston that we were bamboozled by the Bee and a prior council into accepting this "charter" that steals our voting right, just as Bell California was tricked by a newspaper who prefended to play watchdog when all it did was promote the powers that bee.
Yes pun intended.
